Al-Nassr FC Football Club
Early team history
In 1955, Husein Al Deen, Abdullah Al Khoshaiby, Mohammad Ibrahim Khayat and Adel Khames founded Al-Nassr FC Shengli FC. The club was officially registered and recognized in 1956, becoming one of the earliest football clubs established in Saudi Arabia. [76]
At the beginning of its establishment, Al-Nassr FC Football Club participated in regional leagues and various competitions, and joined the first national football league in Saudi Arabia in 1976. After several seasons of experience, Al-Nassr FC Football Club gradually emerged and won the first important trophy - the King's Cup in 1981. [76]
rise to fame
In the 1990s, the Al-Nassr FC began to have a certain degree of influence worldwide. The Saudi "golden trio" represented by Majed Abdullah, Fahd al Herafy and Mohaisn al Jam'aan, in addition to continuing to lead the team to win two league titles, one Saudi King's Cup championship and one Saudi Confederation Cup championship, also achieved some success in intercontinental competitions. They won the Gulf Champions League twice (the league has now been cancelled), and also won an Asian victory once Winners' Cup and one Asian Super Cup champion. [77]
Low point rebound
With the retirement of the "golden trio", the strength of Al-Nassr FC Football Club has gradually weakened, and in 2007, it was almost downgraded from the top league of Saudi Arabia. However, after several years of adjustment and reconstruction, the team returned to the ranks of strong teams in 2014. In the 2013-14 season, they not only won the top football league championship in Saudi Arabia, but also defeated their city rivals Al Hilal Football Club 2-1 in the final of the Crown Prince Cup. [78] In the next 2014-15 season, Al-Nassr FC Football Club successfully defended its championship. It scored 62 goals in a single season and lost only 20 goals, which was eye-catching. Despite losing 1-2 to Al Ahli Football Club in the semi-finals of the Crown Prince Cup, they narrowly lost 7-8 on penalties to their city rivals Al Hilal Football Club in the final of the King's Cup. [79-80]
However, in the 2015-16 season, the dominance of Al-Nassr FC Football Club in the league declined, dropping from the top of the previous year to the eighth place. But in the 2016-17 season, under the leadership of coach Patrice Carltron, they returned to the top 4 and maintained their position in the top 4 for the following four seasons, demonstrating sustained competitiveness. Among them, in the 2018-19 season, under the coaching of head coach Rui Vitoria, they once again won the Saudi Arabian top league championship. Despite losing by 8 points to their city rivals Al Hilal Football Club in the 2019-20 season, finishing as runners up in the league, they still managed to win the Saudi Arabian Super Cup championship that season.
In the 2020-21 season, Al-Nassr FC Football Club once again defended its title in the Saudi Super Cup, but under the leadership of new coach Mano Menez, their ranking in the league dropped to No. 6. However, in the 2021-22 season, the appointment of Miguel Angel Russell helped Al-Nassr FC Football Club return to the top three of the league.
